Jeremy Becker has just settled in the Las Vegas area. The live circuit grinder relocated to the area so he could take advantage of the abundant live action and online poker. Since he unpacked in February, Becker has apparently had some success.
A fiery beginning, in his words. Since relocating here, I’ve competed in four tournaments, one of which I “bricked,” two of which I placed third, and one in which I came in first.
The 26-year-old uprooted his life from New York City and relocated to Las Vegas. Since arriving in the desert, Becker has racked up over $33,000 in expenses, but at least his rent is covered for the foreseeable future. Sunshine State Poker
Becker has won over $750,000 in live tournaments and shows no signs of slowing down. So that he could play more, he decided to take on Las Vegas.
Beck, who prefers playing in person, still intends to join the online poker community at WSOP.com, where he may compete against players from Nevada and New Jersey. In the online tournaments of the WSOP Circuit, it includes firing.
It’s always fun to find new music, he adds. And if you do happen to burst out, there’s another competition just down the block.
Becker, a New York City native, got his start in poker while in high school. Fast forward to the year 2016, when he enrolled at a university in Tampa, Florida. Outside of school, he discovered what he really loved to do.
“There was a casino about 10 minutes from campus when I first started school,” he recalls. The legal age for casino gambling was 21, but for poker, it was just 18. So, that was the only way I could get my dose.
Becker racked up as many hands as he could to hone his skills and pad his fortune. He has a wealth of experience, having won money in over eighty tournaments between 2017 and 2020. His hobby of poker evolved into his full-time occupation.
After high school, he didn’t work again until college. The country club where I worked as a caddy.
Making some painful discoveries
The road to become a professional poker player was not without its share of obstacles. Like many gamblers, Becker fell prey to the casino’s pits and learnt a terrible lesson.
I spent a week playing blackjack for 10–12 hours a day and lost almost half of my net worth that I had worked so hard to achieve, he adds.
In retrospect, I see that it served me well in the end. I have to play at lower stakes and approach poker more like a profession. I then dove myself into tournament research.
The fruits of one’s labor
Becker, after concentrating, regained his groove and began winning low-stakes tournaments handily. He has won 17 tournaments from the year 2021. Notable successes include:

He brags, “In the recent Hollywood series, I won a $400 one-day tournament with almost 500 participants.” I was the last person to enter the competition, so this one felt really fantastic. I was trying to register for another competition when they closed registration.
That’s why I said, ‘Why not? I played for three to four hours at blind levels below ten large blinds before winning all but thirty chips.
Maintaining forward motion
Becker has no intention of slowing down and would want to add online poker success to his resume. He also plans to attend more live shows.
Being in Las Vegas also simplifies participation in the World Series of Poker. He has participated in the Main Event for the last two years, with his best showing coming last year when he placed in the top 1,100 and won $17,000.
“This year’s major event is really getting me pumped up,” he adds. Despite being among the leaders in chips going into the fourth day, I was eliminated. Since then, I feel like I’ve learnt a lot, and I’m thrilled by this chance.
Most professional poker players didn’t suddenly become good at the game. The same is true for Becker. His spare time is spent raptly watching high-stakes poker. He thinks that if you want to win, you have to study the strategies of champions. What would he tell up-and-coming athletes?
You can’t put a price on experience, and you shouldn’t discount variation.
