PokerStars has been one of the leading online poker companies for many years, and we’ve become used to them hosting ridiculous events.

There is no sign that the trend will reverse, and the 17th Anniversary Sunday Million, slated to begin on March 26, will be one of the first genuinely massive tournaments of the year.

PokerStars just confirmed that the event would have a similar format to prior years, with a $215 buy-in and enormous $7,500,000 in guaranteed prizes.

The $7.5 million prize pool may seem excessive for such a tiny buy-in, but history suggests that the Anniversary Sunday Million will likely have a considerably larger prize pool.

The two most recent Anniversary Sunday Millions were both able to award more than $10,000,000 in prizes, with the record coming to the 15th Anniversary when Vanessa Kade won $1,514,920 against a field of almost 70,000 players.

With the event quickly approaching, let’s examine what’s at stake and how to qualify for this historic online poker game.

Detailing the 17th Anniversary Sunday Million

According to the operator’s statement, the 17th Anniversary Sunday Million will begin on March 26 with a single Day 1 event. This indicates that PokerStars will be flooded with players on that day.

On Day 1, each level will run a total of 20 minutes, and each player will begin with 20,000 in poker chips, per the standard Sunday Million format.

The tournament will permit up to five re-entries per participant, giving each participant many opportunities to advance to Day 2. To do this, you must survive 18 stages of play on Sunday.

Those that survive Day 1 will return to battle the next day, which will have 32 levels of play and 15-minute levels. Day 2 will get you extremely near to the final table and far into the money.

On Tuesday, March 28, the last day of the Anniversary Sunday Million will conclude, with all surviving players returning to the table until just one remains.

If past tournaments are any indication, you may expect to compete for many hours every day, but the winner will walk away with a million dollars.

How to Enter the Anniversary Sunday Million
As is typical for such big events, PokerStars is awarding hundreds, if not thousands, of seats through satellites.

You may win your seat in daily freebuy tournaments that run many times each day and provide $0.27 rebuys, or you can participate in one of the numerous real-money satellite events.

Satellite events will continue through the end of March, so there is plenty of time to open an account, participate in satellites, and win your way into one of the largest online poker tournaments of 2023.
