Freerolls are poker tournaments that do not require any real money from players to join. Freerolls offer the opportunity to gain some free poker experience without the loss of your money, which often discourages new players.

It is widely believed among professional players that freerolls are perfect for beginners – they allow them to study the basics of the game without taking any risks. Freerolls are also great for the people just looking to play the game for the sake of it and have a great time, without actually caring too much about winning. In freerolls, it is possible to win a prize, and even though it is significantly smaller than in “real tournaments”, it adds some additional motivation for players.

Even though players who have developed their poker skills to some decent capacity are a rare (in complacence to beginners) sight in freerolls, sometimes even they can be encountered. Freerolls give them the opportunity to diversify their game and add some twists to it because playing “classic” poker can sometimes bore them. Freerolls play differently to the “classic” Texas Hold’em – they are far more aggressive, with all-ins being a very common move.

The term freeroll also refers to a specific situation with two players remaining, in which one player is guaranteed to at least split the pot with his opponent no matter what the final cards are, but where there is some chance he can win the whole pot if certain final cards are dealt. This occurs before the last card is dealt.
